Now on Tour - Meet and Greet - Nancy S. Thompson

Romantic Suspense / Psychological Thriller
Date to be Published: 10/18/12

Tyler Karras is an honest man, a transplanted Brit living the American dream, but his charmed life takes an unexpected turn when his brother, Nick, is coerced into joining ranks with San Francisco’s Russian mafia.  Ty intervenes to secure Nick’s freedom, yet only succeeds in incurring their wrath.  With no choice but to accept Nick’s new life, Ty returns to his own, but his dreams are dashed when his wife—pregnant with their first child—is killed, the victim of a reckless crime.

Despondent and bitter, Ty macerates his grief in alcohol.  From the depths of the bottle screams a voice, howling for vengeance.  His target is a stranger, the woman who drew his wife toward her death.  He doesn’t know her, but he’ll find her, and when he does, he will make her pay, for a deal has been struck with Nick’s Russian associates, enslaving her into a life of bondage.  But as Ty moves forward in a cloud of alcohol, he mistakes the wrong woman for his intended victim and now all his plans have gone straight to hell.

With his eyes made clear by the stark reality of his mistake, Ty is driven, compelled by remorse and a relentless sense of guilt to make amends and protect Hannah Maguire, the innocent woman whose life he has derailed.  He vows to keep her safe and out of the Russians’ hands, but they’re holding Nick as leverage to force Ty to complete their deal and turn over the girl.  Once again, he must fight to free his brother, miring all three lives in further jeopardy.  But Ty can’t do it all:  Save the girl, his brother and his own soul.  One of them must make the ultimate sacrifice.

“The hell of revenge—the hope of redemption”
Nancy started writing fiction rather suddenly one day in 2010.  Inspired by a song, she was struck with an idea she couldn’t shake and just had to write it down.  It was while working on this, her first novel, that she discovered just how much she loved writing.  She only wishes she had known how much years earlier.  Nancy makes her fiction debut with The Mistaken. She is an interior designer and California transplant, currently living with her husband near Seattle, WA.

Reading Addiction Blog Tours MEET and GREET

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?

Because writing is so much fun and I enjoy it more than anything else, I’d love for it to be my sole means of making a living, but in this market, as publishing stands now, I doubt very much that it’s possible.  That’s not to say I don’t consider writing a career, because I do.  It’s just not the only way I support myself and my family.  But as a dream job, there would definitely be nothing better!

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?

I’d say the hardest part is learning all there is to know about the publishing business and what it takes to write a good, solid book, polished and ready for publication.  There’s a loose, but certain formula, and an expectation that, as a writer seeking publication, you’ve followed that formula, that you know the rules and respect the natural order of the business.  The craft of writing is a never-ending study, and no matter how much you think you know, there’s always something more.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?

There were many other writers who helped polish my manuscript through a dozen or so critiques. Each one had their own style of editing and unique background which helped me build layer upon layer into both my story and my characters.  But of all those critique partners, author Lisa Regan helped me the most.  She brought my story to a whole different level and taught me how to make it all believable.

#4 – What is next for your writing?

My plan is to write a sequel to The Mistaken.  I already have an outline.  I’m just waiting for a chunk of time so I can sit down and write.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?

Oh yes, of course.  I don’t think I could ever write if I didn’t love reading first and foremost.  Right now, I’m reading another John Hart novel, his first, The King of Lies.  He’s my favorite author, and, as a multiple Edgar Award winner, I aspire to be more like him.  Besides that, my other job is book editing, so I get to read a plethora of manuscripts across all genres, something I enjoy very much.

This or That?

#1 - iPod or Mp3?
Definitely iPod.  I love that my iPhone and iPod are all in one.

#2 – Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate.  I couldn’t live without it.  Just ask my husband.

#3 – Mashed Potatoes or French Fries?
Ooh, mashed potatoes.  Yum!

#4 – Comedy or Drama?
Hmm, hard choice, but, though I dearly love to laugh, I think I’ll go with drama.

#5 – Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks?
Nicholas Sparks, if I had to choose.

#6 – Fantasy or Reality?
Reality, for sure.  It’s much scarier to think the danger is not only possible, but probable.

#7 – Call or Text?
While I love to talk, I text more than anything.  That happens when you have a teenager.

#8 – Public School or Home School?
Public school because there’s so much more to life than books and a lot of that comes from interacting with other human beings, especially those your own age.

#9 – Coffee or Hot Chocolate
I live in Seattle where it’s dark, grey, and rainy ten months out of the year, so yeah, coffee all the way!

#10 – eBook or Paperback?
While I do have an e-reader and enjoy the occasional e-book, I’m old school and much prefer the feel and smell of paper and cardstock in my hands.
